Unfortunately, I was a little late to the Twitter festivities because I missed that class due to the flu. However, I finally joined our class’s twitter community! I love reading my classmate’s tweets and being able to relate to them. Sarah and I listened to the podcast together and I got to broadcast that online. Because of the “@“ option, I could tag Sarah in the post to make sure she saw it. I think Twitter is going to be extremely relevant to careers in the future, especially in the education field. In high school some of my teachers had Twitter and they could post about assignments and classroom announcements. It was super helpful and made us feel more connected.
The digital divide can affect student success in schools because some students are better prepared. If a child has access to a modern computer and software, they have an advantage over a student who doesn’t have that access. Programs such as Google or Excel make schoolwork much easier, so a student with computer privileges is set up to succeed. Some causes for the digital divide include the area in which a child lives, and the financial class of their parents. As a teacher, I would just make sure to be aware of the technology a student has access to at home. With that knowledge, I could decide which homework that student is capable of completing.

In the future I plan on teaching a high school English class. This means that the software I will use would probably be reference software (chapter 8). Using resources online for writing papers is extremely helpful, and even websites such as thesaurus.com can help students a lot. As recommended in Chapter 8, I would definitely explore the different software myself before introducing it to my class.
